Harlem Renaissance Project

Cotton Club Pitch

Hi, I’m Brandon…Hi I’m Brida and today we are advertising the “Cotton Club”, a place for African American musicians, poets, and artist to show their talent and be recognized by many people and to get their name out there. In our advertisement, you see Louis Armstrong playing a trumpet with multiple music notes coming out symbolizing one of the assets of our club.

The Harlem Renaissance was the rebirth of the African American culture and for us to have a club for African American to express the ideas/feelings is important to the revival of the culture. One beautiful aspect of the renaissance is the music. Jazz was originated on New Orleans, and was a combination of rhythmic African drumbeats and European instruments. In the 1920s the sounds of jazz migrated with African American to first Chicago, then to New York.

For our club to be stationed in New York, the music flourished, not just to blacks, but ALL RACES. Our club isn’t just for blacks but we also entertained whites. You would think everyone in there were black that’s not the case, most of the people were white with the exception of the black musicians and some white ones.

Tribute to Gatsby

In the book, character Jay Gatsby is a wealthy man and he throws a lot of parties. The music that was played at his parties were of the Harlem Renaissance.
